In the centre, on the surface of a stylized map of the Arctic area – symbolic designation of the four corners of the world, to the left of it – a walrus, to the right – tents of a polar station, a polar she-bear with a cub, above them – a plane, lover – the Northern Sea Route marked by dots, an icebreaker leading a caravan of ships; to the left on a circle from above downwards – a flying plane, oil-extracting gantries, three people with a meteorological probe, a charioteer on a reindeers harnessed sledge, industrial buildings, metal signs by the Mendeleyev’s Periodic System of chemical elements and four crystals. The inscription below along the rim: «МЕЖДУНАРОДНЫЙ ПОЛЯРНЫЙ ГОД» (THE INTERNATIONAL ARCTIC YEAR).
