On the right, Romania's Coat of Arms; on the left, engraved horizontally, the inscription "ROMANIA"; below, the face value "1000 LEI" and the year of issue "1998"; two ornamental branches, laurel on the upper part and oak on the lower part.
Reverse
The graphic and heraldic composition symbolizes the Great Union of 1 December 1918; the main element is the "Union Hall" of Alba Iulia town; underneath, the three-cusped medallion containing the united Coat of Arms of Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania; over the building, engraved circularly, the slogan "SEMPER UNITIS" (united for ever); below, the inscription "ALBA IULIA"; on the lower part, engraved circularly, the date "1918 1 DECEMBRIE 1918".
