Heraldic and graphic elements which symbolize the 1848 Romanian Revolution: the Frisian helmet and the three-colour crossed flags; Romania's Coat of Arms and the year of issue "1998" on the lower part; the inscription "ROMANIA" on the upper part, engraved circularly; the face value is engraved horizontally, boarding the heraldic elements ("1000" on the left and "LEI" on the right).
Reverse
Silhouette of a woman carrying the Romanian three-colour flag; on the lower part, the three-colour badge of the 1848 Romanian Revolution is in pedestal shape flanked by a curled scarf; the text "LIBERTATE EGALITATE FRATIETATE" (liberty, equality, fraternity) which represents the ideals of the Revolution is placed circularly on the upper part; the years "1848" and "1998" are engraved horizontally, left and right of the symbolistic image of Romania.
