The central element is an engraved medallion having four rounded arms; Romania's Coat of Arms is placed in the middle; the year of issue "1999" is engraved left and right; on the upper part, the inscription "ROMANIA"; on the lower part, the face value "100" placed circularly.
Reverse
On the upper part, in the foreground, the portraits of His Holiness Pope John Paul II and of His Beatitude Teoctist, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church; in the background, a Latin Cross; on the lower part, the Coat of Arms of the Pontif Holy Father and of the Romanian Patriarchy; the inscriptions "VIZITA S.S. PAPA IOAN PAUL II IN ROMANIA" and "7-9 MAI 1999" are engraved circularly.
