Description:
Obverse
The original emblem of the Republic of Cyprus, which coincides with the emblem of the Central Bank of Cyprus, the words "ΚΥΠΡΟΣ", "CYPRUS" and "KIBRIS" and the year "2012".
Reverse
A composition depicting a daisy enclosed in wavy circles. The daisy is a motif from a "lefkaritiko" lace, the embroidery of Lefkara village. The lefkaritiko embroidery is included in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intagible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is a characteristic example of the folklore tradition of Cyprus and reflects Cyprus' hospitality. The wavy circles around the motif symbolise the Mediterranean Sea surrounding Cyprus. The coin's nominal value of €5 and the wording "CYPRUS EU PRESIDENCY" are also depicted.
