Obverse
On the coin obverse there are: the Small State Emblem of Ukraine (above) with the legend Національний банк України (National Bank of Ukraine) thereunder; the face value 2/ГРИВНІ (2/Hryvnias) and the coin issue year 2008 (below); there is depicted the conventionalized composition illustrating Symonenko's poem 'Motherhood Swans' together with the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint (on the left).
Reverse
On the coin reverse there is Vasyl Symonenko's portrait; on the right, against the background of willow leaves, there is the inscription ВАСИЛЬ СИМОНЕНКО/1935-1963 (VASYL SYMONENKO) together with two semicircular legends: МОЖНА ВСЕ НА СВІТІ ВИБИРАТИ, СИНУ, (POSSIBLE IS EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD TO CHOOSE, MY SON,) above and ВИБРАТИ НЕ МОЖНА ТІЛЬКИ БАТЬКІВЩИНУ (TO CHOOSE IS NOT POSSIBLE ONLY THE MOTHERLAND) below.
