In the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ОДНА ТЫСЯЧА РУБЛЕЙ» (ONE THOUSAND RUBLES), at the bottom — the year of issue, the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
Reverse
On the lower part of the disc – a scene of applying an judo hold by a policeman, to the left – the inscription "ДЗЮУ ДО" (JUDO) stylized for Japanese hieroglyphs, to the left above – the portrait of the founder of the national judo school V.S. Oschepkov, to its right – a flowering branch of the Japanese cherry tree and hieroglyphs meaning "JUDO", on the right part of the disc – a fragment of the newspaper "Physical Training and Sports".
