In the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower —the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ДВА РУБЛЯ» (TWO RUBLES), at the bottom — «1999», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness,to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
Reverse
The portrait of I.P.Pavlov, to the left — the picture of a dog, to the right on a pile of books — an academic head dress and a gown, at the bottom — the picture of a snake winding round a cup.The inscription at the top along the rim: «1849 И.П.ПАВЛОВ 1936» (1849 I.P.PAVLOV 1936).
