Obverse
The large coat of arms of the Republic of Latvia, with the year 1999 inscribed below, is placed at the centre. The inscriptions LATVIJAS and REPUBLIKA, each arranged in a semicircle, are respectively above and beneath the central motif.
Reverse
A picture of the European Mink, with the numeral 1 and inscription LATS underneath, is centred on the coin. The inscription MUSTELA LUTREOLA (European mink) is placed in a semicircle above the central motif, whereas the numeral 1 and inscription LATS are placed beneath it.
